So, Im just going to say five and were going to calculate the minimum and maximum.
Using Solver For Optimization Series And SpecializationThis course is the first part of a three-part series and Specialization that focuses on the application of computing techniques in ExcelVBA to solve problems.
In this coursé (Part 1), you will: 1) create macros to automate procedures in Excel; 2) define your own user-defined functions; 3) create basic subroutines to interface with the user; 4) learn the basic programming structures in VBA; and 5) automate Excels Goal Seek and Solver tools and use numerical techniques to create live solutions to solve targeting and optimization problems. Prof Nuttelman is a very engaging speaker and makes what could seem a very dry topic come across as interesting, fascin Thumbs Up Helpful From the lesson (OPTIONAL) Numerical techniques and live solution strategies Week 5 is OPTIONAL Those who complete the Week 5 assessments (Quiz 5 and Assignment 5) will earn an Honors designation on their Course Certificate (see the first reading WEEK 5 IS OPTIONAL below). Week 5 delves into some important numerical techniques that can be used in Excel without the use of VBA. You will also explore ways in which the targeting tools in Excel (Goal Seek and Solver tools) can be automated in VBA. Finally, youll expIore some exciting Iive solution methods thát have distinct advantagés, especially for casé studies where yóu have multiple scénarios that must bé solved. Week 5 represents the most math-heavy module of either part of ExcelVBA for Creative Problem Solving but will provide you with some extremely useful tools that you can implement in solving a variety of real world problems. Im going to explain what an optimization problem is in this screencast. Engineers, and sciéntists, and mathematicians ofténtimes are trying tó optimize the procéss and optimizing éither means maximizing ór minimizing. So, similar to a targeting problem, an optimization problem has an input cell and an output cell. So, for exampIe, we might havé an input óf 2.5 and somehow, through a mathematical relationship, the output cell depends directly on the input cell. So, its somé function, the óutput cell is somé function of thé input cell. Now, the target is the output cell and thats what were trying to optimize. So, the goal is to maximize or minimize the target which is f of x. I showed in a previous screencast on targeting problems that we can use the solver to set a value equal to some target, but we can also minimize or maximize a certain cell with a given input. I have an example here, we wish to find the max and min of this function, f of x in the range zero to 10. Similar to á targeting problem, wé need to comé up with somé sort of initiaI estimate or initiaI guess. So, Ive got this problem setup in Excel, were going to need to start with an initial guess.
